History:

Washington Townships proximity to Trenton, Philadelphia, New York and other employment centers has triggered a development boom since the early 1980s. However, for most of its history, Washington has been a community based on agriculture as its primary industry. As a result, much of the Township remains farmland to this day.

Character:
Situated in the southeast corner of Mercer County, Washington Township borders West Windsor Township to the north, Monmouth County to the south, East Windsor Township to the east and Hamilton Township to the west. It is a 20.7 square mile community with a population of about 10,000 located approximately midway between New York City and Philadelphia.
